Dr Jasper Palmier-Claus

Jasper Palmier-Claus is a clinical psychologist delivering cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) as part of the randomised controlled trials (e.g. COMPARE, PRODIGY, BART) conducted at the Psychosis Research Unit. He previously completed his PhD and ClinPsyD at The University of Manchester, where he also worked as a postdoctoral researcher. In additional to delivering psychological therapy, Jasper helps to facilitate the voice hearing course delivered through the local NHS Recovery Academy. He also provides training in clinical assessments for psychosis and supervises trainee clinical psychologist research projects.

Jasper’s research has mainly focused on the psychological processes underlying psychosis and bipolar disorder. This includes studies investigating the role of childhood adversity, stress sensitisation and metacognitive beliefs in the development of voice hearing and paranoia. He is also interested in the causes (e.g. emotional abuse) and consequences (e.g. suicidality) of affective instability and early treatment response in CBT. In 2012, Jasper co-developed ClinTouch, a mobile phone based assessment system for monitoring psychosis. He has written two guides to a research methodology called experience sampling, and is currently editing a book on the subject. His key collaborators include Tony Morrison, Paul French, Filippo Varese, Shon Lewis, Graham Dunn, Katherine Berry, Sandra Bucci, Richard Drake and Peter Taylor.

In his spare time, Jasper Palmier-Claus is an enthusiastic squash player. Considering how much he plays racket sports, he really isn’t very good. He is also an avid supporter of Leyton Orient Football Club who he travels to see when they play in the North of England.
